What is Kootenay Micro Practice?

Kootenay Micro Practice’s focal point is the patient experience.  We believe that heart to heart discussion with your doctor should be reminiscent of the good old days, and, at the same time, the patient/doctor relationship is managed using 21st century technology.

Kootenay Micro Practice is a "micro-practice" - a unique and innovative approach to deliver medical care. This delivery model is becoming more popular, with over 500 physicians in North America who have adopted this practice style. There are a few micro practices in Canada and Kootenay Micro Practice is proud to be the first micro-practice clinic in British Columbia.

The purpose of a micro-practice is to ensure that the family doctor is accessible and spends quality time with the patient to address his/her medical concerns. The idea is simple enough - a physician opens a small clinic and runs it alone or perhaps with limited administrative staff.

This is accomplished by the use of technology and by increasing the patients’ involvement in their own care. Most of the communication and booking is accomplished online, so the clinic has minimal administrative burden. In our case, we offer limited receptionist hours, intended for patients who do not have internet access.

The micro practice model requires that patients feel comfortable with actively providing their input and getting involved in their own care by completing pre-visits questionnaires and by engaging in self-service using the technological tools made available.
